Beware of the GOLDEN COMPASS

In a 2003 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Philip Pullman announced that “My books are about killing God.” Conservative British columnist Peter Hitchens labeled Pullman “The most dangerous author in Britain” and described him as the writer “the atheists would have been praying for, if atheists prayed.”

So, why am I telling you these things about Mr. Pullman? Well, he is the author of the trilogy of books that have inspired the movie, “The Golden Compass,” which will appear in theatres on December 7th of this year. This is a movie about which I want to offer a strong warning.

It has been said that this movie has been made in order to counter the message of the first Chronicles of Narnia movie, “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”. However, as with all evil things, it appears to be purposely presented as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It seems the movie has been dumbed down to fool kids and their parents in the hope that they will see the movie and buy his trilogy of books, where in the end the children kill God and everyone can do as they please. Mr. Pullman has made several remarks that he wishes to kill God in the minds of children. Pullman says he wants children to read the books and decide against God and the kingdom of heaven.

This movie is a watered down version of the first book, which is the least offensive of the three books. The second book of the trilogy is The Subtle Knife and the third is The Amber Spyglass. In the last book, a boy and girl are depicted representing Adam and Eve and they kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MOVIE LIGHTLY. It is not just an innocent movie. It is a subtle, but very real and aggressive assault on God. I beg you to not only choose to not view this movie yourselves, but please take the time to sit down and discuss the contents of this email with your students. This would be a great opportunity to have a discussion with your children about false teachers and doctrines and the dangers of their existence. Especially in light of Gerald’s sermon this past weekend, be on guard!

I want to thank those of you who have sent me information regarding this movie. Those emails spurred me to do more investigation and ultimately issue this warning. As always, if you would like to discuss this further, please contact me.

  1. Jason thank you for the blog on “The Golden Compass”. I think that all people should be aware of what this author is trying to do. I really think we should all pray that he comes to know God and what Jesus did for us all.

What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts!
